ECC Art Students Create Artwork Inspired by “CIRCUS 1903″

Twelve El Centro College Art students, under the direction of Omar Hernandez (Art Program Coordinator), designed 12 framed art pieces using various mediums that will be on display during the entire run of CIRCUS 1903. The musical, which is showing at Music Hall at Fair Park, runs May 23- June 4.

Their assignment was to create a symbolic motif/logo/design based on the musical/performance Circus 1903. Using the techniques, and lessons from the class along with additional techniques, create a digital design that can either, directly reference:

  • the characters

  • music

  • history

  • style

  • concepts of the performance

Students whose artwork is featured in the display are: Francisco Gonzales, Marco Sanchez, Alejandro Subialdea, Eduardo Bermudez, Daniel Castillo, Hunter Cave, Stephanie Hastings, Alexis Jimenez, Natalie Kessel, Christopher Martinez, Luis Morales and Jerry Sharp.

The Art Department of El Centro College provides a wide range of courses including studio and lecture classes. Studio classes in both 2-D and 3-D media are offered including drawing, painting, photography, design, jewelry & small metals, sculpture and ceramics. These classes are essential coursework for the student pursuing a degree in a creative field, and they supply the student with valuable foundation skills. Students are encouraged to engage in personal artistic exploration, and engage in community activities such as exhibitions and collaborations.
