Journalist Alfredo Corchado at El Centro College

The El Centro College Lassiter Lecture Series and the El Centro Literacy Link present Alfredo Corchado, the author of “Midnight in Mexico: A Reporter’s Journey Through a Country’s Descent into Darkness.” Join them for an engaging and insightful morning with the author.

Alfredo Corchado, is an award-winning journalist and the Mexico correspondent for The Dallas Morning News; he is currently director of the Borderlands Program at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. Born in Durango, Mexico, Corchado grew up in California and Texas and attended El Paso Community College and the University of Texas at El Paso. On July 29, 2015, Corchado testified before the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere on the dangers that reporters face in Mexico. It is these dangers that Corchado discusses in “Midnight in Mexico.”

10 – 11 a.m.: Keynote address and audience questions (time permitting) in the El Centro College Performance Hall

1 – 2:30 p.m.: Informal Q&A, mix and mingle, book signing in the El Centro College H. Paxton Moore Art Gallery

The El Centro Literacy Link is an initiative surrounding a common book that encompasses reading and writing and is meant to be a co-curricular interdisciplinary project that engages the students, employees, and greater community in the collective experience of reading and discussing a common text. During each spring semester, a new text is selected for exploration during the next academic year with the goal of selecting a text that has application across an array of academic disciplines.
